Advanced Screenshots is a Chrome extension for capturing, annotating, and exporting screenshots. It is built to work entirely on your computer. This policy explains what the extension and this website (advancedscreenshots.com) do with your information.
The short version
- Your screenshots never leave your computer. We never see them.
- The extension does not read, collect, or send your browsing history or the content of the pages you visit.
- There are no ads and no tracking inside the extension.
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
Screenshots and page content
When you click the extension and start a capture, it takes an image of the current tab. Only then, and only on that tab, does it run a small script to select a region or scroll the page for a full-page capture. The image is processed inside your browser and opened in the extension's editor. It is held in Chrome's local extension storage only long enough to hand it to the editor, then deleted.
Anything you save (PNG, JPG, or PDF) or copy goes straight to your own computer or clipboard. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Data stored on your device
The extension uses Chrome's local extension storage for a few things: the screenshot currently being passed to the editor, the most recent capture error (so the popup can explain it), and, if you activate a license, your license key and its status. This data stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
License activation
All features are currently free, and the extension makes no network requests at all.
If paid features are offered in the future and you choose to activate a license, the extension will send exactly two things to our server at advancedscreenshots.com: your license key and a random identifier generated for that installation. The identifier is not derived from your hardware, your identity, or your browsing, and is only used to count how many devices a license is active on. We store the license key, that identifier, and the time of activation. No screenshot, page content, or browsing history is ever sent.
Purchases
If you buy a license, the payment is handled by Gumroad. We never see your card details. Gumroad shares the sale and license key with us so we can activate your license. Gumroad's handling of your information is covered by its own privacy policy.
This website
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and clicks on its buttons, which helps us understand how people find the extension. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects standard information such as your approximate location, browser, and pages viewed. See how Google uses this data. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies. Google Analytics is used only on this website, never inside the extension.
Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and troubleshooting.
Permissions the extension uses
- activeTab: capture the tab you're on, only when you click the extension.
- scripting: run the region-selection or page-scrolling script on that tab, only after you start a capture.
- storage and unlimitedStorage: pass large screenshots from the capture step to the editor, locally.
- offscreen: detect whether your browser is in light or dark mode to pick the right toolbar icon.
The extension does not request access to any website in advance, and cannot read pages you haven't captured.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what the extension sends or stores, we will describe it here before the update ships.
